Cinderella: The Making of a Sorceress - A Photo Caption Crossover Story

Cinderella: The Making of a Sorceress.

After her stepfamily left for the Ball, Cinderella wished she could get revenge on them for destroying her mother's gown and for not allowing her to go to the Ball with them.  In her desperation, Cinderella felt her dreams were for naught, but little did she know, someone had overheard her thoughts....

The Blue Fairy (talking to Cinderella): "What's wrong, child?  Why are you crying?"

Cinderella (crying aloud): "I see no way out.  There's nothing left for me to believe in. Nothing. My greatest wish now is to dominate the world.  It is the only thing that would give me any say so in my own life, and that is something I have never had.  I've never had any control over my own life. Never."

The Blue Fairy (talking to Cinderella): "I can't help you with world domination, but I know someone who might be able to help."

Cinderella stops crying, pulls herself to her feet, and turns around to see the Blue Fairy standing nearby and looks at her with astonishment....

Cinderella (talking to the Blue Fairy): "Who...who are you? Did you say that there is someone who can help me? Who can help me?"

The Blue Fairy (talking to Cinderella): "Why, I am the Blue Fairy. Your Fairy Godmother.  I am magical, but my powers are limited. Nonetheless, it is my job to grant your wish, good or bad.  If I cannot grant it directly through my magic, I can summon help from those entities whose powers are greater than my own.  There is indeed one who might be able to help you, and she is one whom I owe a great debt to.  My teacher of magic, the great Sarah Ravencroft. Sarah was one of the world's most powerful witches, and she was my teacher.  She was killed by the superstitious village folk of Oakhaven Town, the town where I lived where we met...many years ago.

The villagers were afraid of magical folk, like Sarah and me.  Sarah was my teacher, and I, her devoted servant and student of magic.  After she was burned at the stake, I fled from the town.   I was assigned to work as a fairy godmother to all young women in need by the great sea witch -- Karen of the Atlantic -- a powerful witch and the teacher of Sarah, who helped me to complete my magical studies after Sarah's death.  I am to do this great work for the rest of time.   World domination would be a request that I could not automatically grant you.  Some work would be required of you to achieve your goal. Sarah might be able to help you achieve your goal, but trafficking in her magic comes at a price, which only she can decide."

Cinderella (talking to the Blue Fairy): "Very well, Blue Fairy. Summon her here. Summon the great Sarah Ravencroft, if you please."

The Blue Fairy (talking to Cinderella): "Very well, my child."

The Blue Fairy (reciting her spell):  " Magic, I ask thee to waken and to bring forth the spirit of Sarah Ravencroft. Sarah Ravencroft. O, wise Sarah Ravencroft. I summon thee. Appear before us now, Sarah Ravencroft."

Sarah magically appears, as if out of thin air....

Sarah Ravencroft (talking to the Blue Fairy): "Why have you summoned me from my resting place, Blue Fairy?  What is your request?"

The Blue Fairy (talking to Sarah Ravencroft): "This young lady here wishes to achieve world domination."

Sarah Ravencroft (addressing Cinderella): "Is this true, my fair child? You seek world domination?"

Cinderella (talking to Sarah Ravencroft): "It is true, good witch. I do wish for world domination.  I seek revenge against my stepmother and stepsisters.  They would not allow me to go to the Ball. I was hoping it would be my chance to escape my life of drudgery, the one they have forced me to live for so long.  I beg you, ma'am. Can you help me?"

Sarah Ravencroft (laughing aloud while addressing Cinderella): "Ahahahahahahahahahaha!   I'm sure I can, but I have a question to ask of thee..."

Cinderella (talking to Sarah Ravencroft):  "What do you wish to ask me, good witch?

Sarah Ravencroft (talking to Cinderella): "Would you be willing to become one of us...a magical creature, so to speak?"

Cinderella (talking to Sarah Ravencroft): I would. Oh, yes, great Sarah Ravencroft. I would like that very much indeed.  What is the price that I must pay for trafficking in your magic, good witch?  The Blue Fairy told me that working with your magic comes at a price."

Sarah (talking to Cinderella): "Very well, girl. There indeed is a price for trafficking in my magic, but I cannot determine it alone.  We must summon Karen of the Atlantic, the great Sea Witch to decide that. Do you agree to this, child?

Cinderella (talking to Sarah): "Yes. I agree to it all.  Summon this sea witch, the great Karen of the Atlantic...if you please."

Sarah (talking to Cinderella): "As you wish, my child.  Blue Fairy, help me summon the great Karen of the Atlantic."

Blue Fairy (reciting a spell aloud): "Karen of the Atlantic. Great Witch of the Sea, I summon you.  Please answer the call of my magic, O Wise One."

Sarah (reciting a spell):
"O, Great and Wise Karen of the Atlantic, I summon you with the power of thy magic. Come unto me, Karen of the Atlantic. Heed my call!"

Karen of the Atlantic, the Great Sea Witch, appears -- almost as if she just materialized out of thin air...

Karen of the Atlantic, the Sea Witch (talking aloud): "The great powers of magic have called to me from the world of mortal land-dwellers. Magic has summoned me from my undersea kingdom of Atlantica.  Now I have come to the land of the mortal land-dwellers.  I have been brought forth by the summoning of two of my magical children.  I, the only witch who can leave the kingdom of the sea.   I know what you wish for, my girl. For I, Karen of the Atlantic, know all.  You wish to become a magical creature and to traffic in Sarah Ravencroft's magic, do you?"

Cinderella (talking to Karen): "Yes, good witch.  I long to become a magical creature so that I may achieve world domination."

Karen (talking to Cinderella): "Fear not, Cinderella. For you shall have your wish...but not at Sarah Ravencroft's price, but at my own.  You shall work as a sorceress for as long as I wish, and you must do whatever I command of you.  If you do not, then I shall make an end of you.  Understand?"

Cinderella (talking to Karen): "Yes, I understand.  Please, would make me a sorceress...uh, ma'am."

Karen of the Atlantic (talking to the fairy and Sarah): "Blue Fairy. Sarah.  You both shall help me cast the spell.  As you know, spells are always more powerful when there is more than one magical creature joining in. Follow my lead. Now...I call upon the powers of magic to grant...Cinderella...the ability to become a powerful sorceress!"

The Blue Fairy (reciting a similar spell): "I call upon the powers of magic to make Cinderella, a powerful sorceress!"

Sarah (reciting another similar spell): "I call upon the powers of magic to make Cinderella into a powerful sorceress!"

Cinderella (talking aloud): "Did it work? Am I a sorceress? Oh, this gown is so lovely. Have you ever seen a more beautiful dress?"

Karen (talking to Cinderella): "It is, indeed, a beautiful gown. You're a sorceress now, yes. And not only that, but you have the gift of temporary immortality. A gift bestowed upon all my magical creatures by my own  desire.  Think of it as a bonus. As for the dress, well...working as a magical creature for me does provide some benefits. But be warned...as a magical creature under my command, you must do well to blend in with the other mortals around you.  You must not tell another person of your powers -- unless you work your magic on, or for them. If you tell anyone, it shall be the end of you. Immortality will no longer be yours.  It is dangerous for mortals to know of our kind.  The Blue Fairy told you about what happened to Sarah.  The fate which befell Sarah is why we magical creatures cannot reveal our true identities to mortals.

Cinderella (talking to Karen): "I understand. I agree to all of it, ma'am.  Why wasn't Sarah able to grant my wish for me like the Blue Fairy claimed she could?"

Karen (talking to Cinderella): "Why?  Well, Sarah Ravencroft is dead.  We can summon the spirits of the dead, we living magical creatures, for help.  But their powers are limited because I have made their powers so.  We living magical creatures can use the help of their powers when working our magic. Magic never dies.  The human conduits of that magic do, despite their having immortal status.  Remember, the immortal status of all other magical creatures beside myself that is, is conditional.  It can be lost, the immortal status of any magical creature if I wish to take it away from them.  I can do so at any time if it is my desire.

This is the first time that the Blue Fairy ever summoned Sarah for her services.  You're the first person whom the Blue Fairy has appeared to.  She can only appear to those young women who're in truly desperate need...such as yourself.  You sought world domination, and that is too strong a wish for a fairy to grant.  She should never have attempted to grant such a request.  Sarah, as a dead magical being, doesn't have that kind of power to grant either; she should never have attempted to do so.   But she summoned me before attempting to grant your desire, and that does make a difference.

I could destroy the Blue Fairy and Sarah for attempting to grant you power that is not theirs to give, but as one who believes in showing mercy...I shall give both of them another chance.  Both have served me well over the years. Yes, I shall give them another chance. But...I cannot allow anyone besides myself, mortal or immortal, to dominate the world -- but you can have some control over others who wish to do you wrong.  You can do that through the use of your powers.  You can do this with any mortal in the world.  You can do this by teaching those mortals who do you wrong a lesson.  Thus, in a way you do have the ability to "dominate the world" as you put it.

By the Blue Fairy summoning Sarah, and in turn, by Sarah helping me grant your wish, you have -- in a way -- trafficked in Sarah's magic. And for that, consequences can result if you abuse your newfound abilities in any way.  Consequences that will be bestowed upon you, not by Sarah, but by me. A ghost, not even a ghost-witch has the power to do this, not without my permission. Any abuse of your magic will result in punishment, brought upon solely by me. Do you understand?"

Cinderella (talking aloud to Karen): "Oh, I understand, ma'am. Of course, I do.

Karen (talking to Cinderella): "Well, I hope you do.  Just to further make sure that you do not get into trouble, I shall assign you another fairy to help guide your conscience.  The Blue Fairy really had no business summoning Sarah to--"

The Blue Fairy (talking to Karen of the Atlantic): "I meant no harm in it, your Greatness.  I just thought maybe I could call upon Sarah to help me. World domination seemed like too big a task for me to carry out, and you always told me that we can summon the spirits of our magical brethren to help us in our tasks...so I thought that just this once, I could ask Sarah --"

Karen of the Atlantic (talking to the Blue Fairy): "And you thought you might ask Sarah, someone you always trusted, for help...because I told you that you must attempt to grant the wishes of those mortals who are in need of help, regardless of whether or not those wishes are good or bad.  Yet, you should have known better than to attempt to grant any mortal the ability to dominate the world.  You knew better, but unquestioning obedience to my orders did not dissuade you from attempting to carry out this forbidden work.  Let this be a lesson to you, Blue Fairy.

(Talking to Cinderella): You see girl, it is the mortal wisher who suffers the consequences of their wish, even if it is for ill intent. Remember that always, Cinderella.   The Fairy and Sarah should have told you this.  And they did not. As the Blue Fairy has summoned the spirit of Sarah Ravencroft to try and help you achieve your wish of world domination, she shall not serve as your conscience as she might have done.

If she had remembered my rules and told you that no mortal can dominate the world, things may have been different.  Even ones who has served me for so many years as the Blue Fairy and Sarah have done can let their obedience towards one rule interfere with their ability to follow another rule, one that is even greater.   No one has ever requested the power of world domination before from any of my magical creatures.  You are the first. Yet, Cinderella, since I believe there is good in you, I will also spare you from destruction. I have taken it upon myself to allow you to have the power to teach a lesson to your enemies and to help mortals who are in need.  That is my command to you.

Help those who seek the aid of your powers.  You must help them to do good.  I believe that you want to help others.  I don't believe that you really want world domination or revenge -- I think you only want the power to be able to stand up for yourself.  The Blue Fairy only helps those young women who are in desperate need, but she is not commanded to inspire them to do good or bad.  The good or ill intent of the wishes she grants is up to the wisher.  I shall be watching over you.  You misuse your magic, or if you use it to cause unnecessary harm to mortals -- then you can guess what your punishment shall be.

Talking to the Blue Fairy, Sarah Ravencroft and Cinderella): "So long, my little ducklings.  I must return to my undersea home and revert back to my true form. Yes, Cinderella. I know what you're thinking, 'Her true form?' I can take many forms when I appear on land.  This is not my true form, not even under the sea where I may also appear in a different form Any form that I have chosen to take on. I shall return to you, Cinderella, and I will bring with me the fairy who shall help guide you through the ways of magic.  There is so much more I have to tell you, but I cannot reveal such information, not now.  I must go, and remember all that I have told you, Cinderella. Goodbye, my ducklings. My children."

With that, Karen of the Atlantic disappeared like that, instantaneously.  As if she had never even been there to begin with...

Sarah (talking aloud to the Fairy and to Cinderella): "I must return to the Netherworld before sunup. Goodbye, Blue Fairy. My Evelyn.  I'm sorry I got you into trouble."

The Blue Fairy (talking to Sarah Ravencroft): "No need to apologize, dear.  Goodbye... my dear, old friend."

Sarah Ravencroft (laughing as she speaks aloud): "Ahahaha. Farewell, Evelyn. My student, my friend. Farewell, Cinderella, and good luck with your new powers.  If you ever need me, I'm sure you can summon me anytime. Just don't ask for the power of world domination again. Okay, my child? Ahahahahahahahahahaha."

And with that, Sarah Ravencroft disappeared as instantaneously as she had first appeared....

Evelyn the Blue Fairy (talking to Cinderella): "Yes, dear. Evelyn was my mortal name.  I have the ability to read your mind. All fairy godmothers can read the minds of those wishers they're assigned to. Yes, Karen the Great, assigned me to you.  Now I must be off, my dear. Make sure to be wise. Use your magic wisely. Remember all that you were told tonight, and may the stars bless you and watch out for you.  Even though you may not see me, I shall always be there...watching over you.  Goodbye, my dear."

And with that, Evelyn the Blue Fairy disappeared so quickly, it was as if she had never been there at all...

Cinderella (talking out loud to herself): "My, what a strange evening this has been.  I'd better get inside before Stepmother and the girls return home."

Maleficent (talking aloud): "Well, I know when I'm not wanted."

Maleficent, whatever you're going to do to Jasmine, you must also do to me, too. I love her!"

Maleficent (talking aloud): "How sweet."

Maleficent (talking aloud): "But it's too late!"

Maleficent (reciting her spell): "Powers of Hell, I come upon you to destroy these two lovers, Anastasia Tremaine and Princess Jasmine of Agrabah! Destroy them!"

Jasmine (yelling at Maleficent): "Stop it, stop this at once, you old hag! I forbid it! Do what you will to me but leave Anastasia alone!"

Anastasia (whispering to Cinderella): "Oh, Cinderella! I'm so frightened."

Maleficent (screaming): "Enough of this nonsense!"

Maleficent (casting her spell): "Powers of Hell, I call upon thee! Destroy Princess Jasmine and Anastasia! Destroy them!"
